“If you truly want to be happy in life, you should tie it to a goal not to people or objects” – Alberta Einstein
Peace in Oneself
Who are you? A simple question that many find difficult to answer, our identities can be tied to many different things, in the field of entrepreneurship where ideas are encouraged, the “idea”, “concept” or outside projection can begin to influence who a person truly is. The key to overcoming being lost in any journey is to find a true sense of inner peace and self fulfillment within one’s own being. When you tie your happiness to an individual or object you will find that this feeling of happiness or sadness (emotion) is impermanent. When you tie your happiness to any independent source outside yourself, you have thus lost yourself and will in turn not be able to genuinely connect with other people. In business, trades, life in general it is all about relationships no matter the audience. I am starting to find that all too often the most important relationship that matter the most is ignored. This is the relationship within oneself, something that would seem elementary but that is easily forgotten especially when focused on impermanent ideas and concepts.
Discovery
I think a major key to happiness and success is placing more emphasis on emotional freedom, overcoming the fear of loneliness, and finding enlightenment within oneself. This thought process and idea is constructive specially when considering the role of technology in our lives today. Working in isolation away from constant wifi connection last year, I found that my business and personal relationships changed significantly due to the distance of physical geography, and internet connectivity. When these connections were permanently removed in the digital realm, a huge wave of emotion and loss overcame me in a way that physically and mentally shocked me. The emotional dependence we have on technology today is real and as a result studies suggest there is a heavy mental health risk to high frequency digital media and technology users.
“In order to truly experience life in a liberated state of being, in freedom, one has to be free of any form of emotional dependence. The enlightened way of living, or the awakened state, simply points to the state of being which is free of dependence on the “outside” for fulfillment, and finds complete satisfaction in one’s own presence or “Self”. Presently, more and more people are becoming conscious of the bondage created by emotional dependence, and are finding their way back to their inner sense of “being” where they find a connection and fulfillment that makes them feel whole again.” – Sen – CalmDownMind.com
Modern Research
Our brain is constantly evolving and learning how to deal with the flow of content/information it is taking in everyday. We place a cover photo on facebook and an avatar profile photo to project who and what we are to the rest of the world. But our true selves are far beyond what we post and share through social media, however we create emotional ties to these images, we connect ourselves to this “reality” without sometimes taking into consideration the mental health component of how this affects our relationships and true level of privacy and intimacy. The following article and link attached gives more details to these studies and findings. Click here for the link. In the coming years I would not be surprised if there is continued research and studies into this interesting evolution within society.
